My journey into disability empowerment didn't start as a mission, it started as survival.

My name is Tarcy M. Mugendi and I am a Survivor. A road accident changed the course of my life, and in the aftermath, I quickly realized that surviving the crash was only the beginning. What followed was a much longer, quieter fight: learning to navigate a body and a life that had changed. This gap is what led me to start Beyond Survival.

Beyond Survival is an awareness initiative built for accident survivors and anyone rebuilding life after tragedy, not just road accidents, but any experience that forces you to start over. At its core is a simple belief: we are not defined by what happened to us, we are survivors, and there is a full life still waiting to be built. I don't believe that life after tragedy becomes easier, but I do believe it can become shorter and less lonely when there is a community walking through it together.

Through Beyond Survival, I create content that speaks directly to that in-between space; the part of recovery no one prepares you for. In the long run Beyond Survival will not just be posts but it will grow into real conversations in the comments, survivors reaching out to share their own stories, and the early foundations of in-person meetups where people can heal alongside others who genuinely understand.

It's community-led healing, built from a gap I lived through myself and refused to leave unfilled for the next person.

I am pursuing the Disability Empowerment Excellence recognition not for what I've overcome, but for what I'm building because of it; a space where disabled and injured individuals don't have to navigate life after tragedy alone, and where empowerment starts with being seen, heard, and understood by people who've been there too.
